The Canadian Federation of Library Associations / Fédération canadienne des associations de bibliothèques (CFLA-FCAB) welcomes the report “Reclaiming Power and Place: The Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls”.

In support of the report, the CFLA-FCAB Indigenous Matters Committee – Comité des questions autochtones calls on libraries in Canada to strive to be safe spaces for Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people. As a committee, we recognize that there have been and continue to be human and Indigenous rights abuses and violations which the Commission defined as a Canadian genocide.

Recognizing libraries are sites of both public good and colonial power in Canada we call on libraries to examine structures and processes and commit to enacting the Calls for Justice.

In supporting the Calls for Action in the report, we also ask that libraries provide access to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls report in print and online to all Canadians and call upon the Government of Canada to ensure there are adequate resources for libraries across Canada to do so.
